Räikköselle EI moottorivaihtoa

Kimi Räikkösen Ferrari-autoon ei vaihdeta uutta moottoria Malesian GP-viikonloppua varten. Asian vahvisti tallipäällikkö Jean Todt.

- Testiemme jälkeen emme havainneet mitään sellaista, jonka takia meidän pitäisi muuttaa suunnitelmiamme tai vaihtaa moottoria, Todt sanoi.

Räikkösen moottorin suhteen oltiin ennen Malesian GP-viikonlopun alkua huolissaan, koska se ylikuumeni voitokkaassa Australian GP:ssä. Kuljettajien on ajettava kaksi peräkkäistä kisaviikonloppua samalla moottorilla. Moottorinvaihdosta olisi seurannut lähtöruutua pudottava rangaistus.
Räikkönen kokeili tiettävästi perjantaiharjoituksissa ajaa Ferrarillaan siten, että moottorin hevosvoimalukemia oli tarkoituksellisesti hieman rajoitettu. Näin suomalaiskuskille kertyi kokemusta siitä, minkälaiseen vauhtiin hän yltäisi moottorin kestävyyden suhteen varman päälle tehdyillä asetuksilla.

Heidfeld unfazed by expiring contract

Nick Heidfeld is not worried about renewing his contract with BMW-Sauber despite it expiring at the end of the season. He says it's all part of being a Formula One driver and he is just focusing on the job in hand.

"It does not make any difference to me," the 29-year-old told German magazine Auto Motor und Sport. "I've been in Formula One for several years now and been in this situation before. In any case, when I am on the track or sitting in the car I don't think at all about this kind of thing except doing my best."

BMW-Sauber's Sebastian Vettel has impressed in Friday practice sessions and looks set for a promising career. Although BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen had no qualms about ousting more experienced Jacques Villeneuve for hot prospect Robert Kubica last season, Nick Heidfeld simply said "no" as to whether he was afraid of being replaced by his young compatriot. Instead, Heidfeld is looking to establish himself as one of the top drivers at the pinnacle of motorsport and believes that BMW offers him the best opportunity of doing that.

When asked about stepping into Michael Schumacher's shoes as the best German driver, he said: "I think that all German drivers have that as their aim. But it naturally depends on how good the team is. At the moment it looks like I am with the best team with BMW-Sauber. Therefore I am in the best position."But for me it is insignificant," he added. "I don't want to be the best German but the best of all."

Weekend weather update - hot and sunny

It is always very hot and humid here, and the forecast for the race weekend is very straightforward: sunny with ambient temperature highs of 34 degrees Celsius each day. There is a 20 percent chance of rain each day, but no matter how torrential that is it usually dries up very quickly.

F1 stats for Malaysian GP

Hamilton
Briton Lewis Hamilton's third place for McLaren in the Australian season-opener made him the first rookie since Canadian Jacques Villeneuve in 1996 to stand on the podium after his first Grand Prix.

The 22-year-old was also the 55th to score points on his debut.
The last driver to win a race in his rookie season was Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya with Williams in Italy in 2001.

Race wins
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen claimed his 10th victory in Melbourne. That elevated him to third in the list of most successful current drivers, behind Alonso (15) and Briton David Coulthard (13).

Ferrari's now-retired seven times champion Michael Schumacher holds the record of 91 wins.
Raikkonen has twice before won two races in a row - in 2005 when he triumphed in Spain and then Monaco before wins in Hungary and Turkey.

Ferrari last won the opening two races of the season with Schumacher in 2004. Raikkonen had never before started a season with a win.

The last Ferrari driver to lead the championship was Schumacher, last season.

Constructors
Raikkonen's victory dashed Renault's hopes of a hat-trick of season-opening wins.

The French team won in Melbourne in 2005 with Italian Giancarlo Fisichella and in Bahrain in 2006 with Alonso.

Renault have also won in Malaysia for the past two seasons.

McLaren have not won a race since October 2005, when Raikkonen triumphed for them in Japan. Williams's last victory was with Montoya in Brazil in October 2004.

Ferrari have now won 193 races, McLaren 148 and Williams 113. Renault have won 33. Two teams, Super Aguri and Spyker, have yet to score points in F1.

Malaysia
Ferrari have the best record in Malaysia since the first race at Sepang in 1999. The Italian team have won there four times.

Alex Yoong is the only Malaysian driver to have raced in F1.

Milestone
Red Bull's Coulthard, the oldest driver on the F1 starting grid, has celebrated his 36th birthday since the Melbourne season-opener.
